So the past week has mainly been consisting of the band camp at North Canyon High School. I've been working really hard and it's been a blast.
The first day was really strange. There were people who kept hugging each other and saying hi and being all friendly, and I didn't really know what to do but stand there for a while. But when we go to work I got to know a little about some people. I got to be introduced to the entire clarinet section, which was smaller that I had expected, which I guess was good.
Each morning we would learn how to march. It's not really that hard. If you just stay on tempo and pay attention to the calls then you should be ok.
The second part of the day would be rehearsals. They have a TON of stand-tunes (Which are songs that you play in the stands during the football game. For the most part, those aren't as hard as you might think. But then we have the performance pieces that we have...
Those are the most challenging pieces of them all. And although I do like a good challenge when it comes to music, it's harder to march to. I've been practicing a lot of it and, so far I've improved for only knowing the three tunes for a week. My favorite of the performance pieces is the 2nd one. It not onlyis very melodic, but it is also the easiest of the three The pieces are Disney themed, and they sound AMAZING! I've heard that the band is going on a trip to Disneyland, but I'm not sure...
Here are the song's we have to play, brought to you by the power of Youtube(sorry if the instantaneous beeps in the songs bother you. It's a way to make sure no one steals it) :
The people there are really nice.So of them can have colorful personalities. It's fun to see how many people can have such a great passion for such an art.
We had a pizza party on the last day, and we even payed hide an seek in the dark auditorium. It was fun not getting caught :).
Hopefully now that I know what marching band is like, high school won't sound so terrifying as it seemed earlier. :)
